Wreck - March 28, 2008

Car Crash Info

As many of you know, my daughter was involved in a devastating car crash on March 28, 2008. Here are the facts:

Stephany was on her way home from Houston with her boyfriend, Broady and his younger brother Cody. The accident took place about 7 miles West of Beaumont Texas. We believe a tire blew out on the Ford Expedition they were in. The Expedition left the I-10 and went into the median and crashed into an "emergency vehicle cross over" at 62 mph head on, then went air born over the crossover and crashed down on the front of the vehicle. The State Trooper at the scene said that there was no alcohol, no drugs and they were not speeding. None of these things ever entered my mind, I know all of these kids better than that!

GOD was riding with them on that Friday night or they would not be here with us now. Upon arrival at St. Elizabeths Hospital, Stephany had to have her spleen removed immediately as it was ruptured. Over the next five days she had multiple surgeries. Both bones in her left leg were crushed; both bones in her left forearm were crushed, the bone in her upper left arm was also crushed plus there was radial nerve damage in her left arm also; she has 4 fractured ribs on the left side, her right coller bone was broken; the L5 in her lower back was fractured and there was a torn ligament between the L4 and L5; her right ankle was badly sprained and quite possibly a torn ligament in her ankle. She is currently in rehab at St. Patricks Hospital in Lake Charles.

Broady, her boyfriend, has a crushed L5 and fractured L2, L3 and L4, some spinal cord injury and a broken right heel. He has had two back surgeries. The doctors have decided not to do surgery on his right due to the fact it would have to be casted and would restrict him from regaining movement in his leg. He is currently in Houston, in TIRR (Texas Institute of Rehabilitation and Research), one of the best rehabs for spinal cord injuries! He is showing more and more improvement each day. They have said that he has already regained more movement in his legs than they thought was possible given the extent of his injuries.

Cody, the little brother, has a small fracture in his skull; a concussion and both of his jaws were broken. He was wearing braces at the time and the doctors were able to use rubber bands to keep his jaws together. He did not require any surgery and was released on April 3, 2008. He is doing great!

We appreciate all of your prayers for the healing of their bodies and spirits. Thankfully there were no head or brain injuries. Stephany and Broady have a very long road of recovery ahead of them. Please continue to pray for them and for the families! I will try to keep you posted as their conditions change. Just remember to pray, GOD is so Good and we are seeing miracles happen every day!
